Dutch Kamphuisen Siroopwafel Factory

EN

A time before we got home quarantined, I was meeting up with Jessy for a yummy tourguide through a syrup waffle factory 'Kamphuisen Siroopwafel Fabriek'! You can book a tour right here and this was also a birthday gift from me to Jessy that I secretly loved to be tagged along with as well. #foodie

This syrupwaffle was once invented by the Dutch family Kamphuisen somewhere in the year 1800. Their syrupwaffles are slightly different than the Dutch 'stroopwafels' too. It's caramelly, waffle soft serve cone texture, brittle and crispier. And sweet, just like this whole tour experience through the factory.

But first, brunch
Kruim ♥♥♥♥♥ 4/5
When I meet up with Jessy we always have so much to talk and catch up and what better way to do that is with good food. It was lunchtime and we settled down at restaurant Kruim. Kruim is a Dutch word for crumble which I thought it`s cute. Kruim is also located in a library which is lovely: you can read and eat and drink food. Anyways Jessy and I mainly talked and ate and we lost track of time! We only had 10 min to eat and walk all the way to the syrupwaffle factory!
We ordered:
1 tea
1 beetroot cacao latte
1 mackerel sandwich + salad
1 avocado egg sandwich
total damage: €23 (tip incl.)
Eeps, less then 10 mins to walk/sprint over to syrupwaffle factory! Hurry hurry!
Kamphuisen Siroopwafel fabriek
But phew, we have made it and arrived and we even still got time left. Kamphuisen syrupwaffle factory is a shop, bakery and warehouse in one. All the syrupwaffles are baked in this Kamphuisen place and delivered in all places of The Netherlands.

So the tour. We were with around 10 person including us. We first got a little history storytelling about the rise of Kamphuisen`s syrupwaffle. The original recipe belongs to the family Kamphuisen back in the beginning of the year 1800. Our tour continues to the factory part with all the behind the scene and tasting!
1. Dresscode
Before we enter the factory we all had to wear this stylish blue hairnet. Our tour guide was this lovely lady who guided us through the factory with enthusiasm and care.
2. Syrup tasting
Tasting time! Here we were allowed to taste and guess which filling flavours we are having here. There was salted caramel (so good), orange flavour, chocolate and coffee. The original syrupwaffle only has the caramel version but they should really put out the salted caramel and the orange flavour one into the market! I`d totally buy.

Be a hamster with this dough-kneading-spin-the-wheel
The anatomy of a syrupwaffle. Interesting!
3. work work work
a 1800 year old waffle on a modern conveyor belt. We were able to take a good look at the step-by-step process from beginning to the end product. Super interesting of course. This whole belt thing works a bit hypnotic as well. You should really see this for yourself!
4. Recipe
Here one lucky quester could possible get the secret recipe of the syrupwaffle making! All you need to do is to crack open the safe.
The ending of the tour ends with a slide. #innerchild
But wait there`s more towards the end! We got rewarded with even more treats and syrup flavoured shots with high alcoholic percentage. Jessy`s and my very own sugar level were sky-high.
Thanks for having us Kamphuisen Siroopwafel Factory!
