Gnocchi & tiramisu, per favore

Image
EN This will be my last post about my summer stay in Italy and it’s about our last dinner too. For our last dinner, me and my friend F. decided to eat fancy and so we entered La Posada Rimini. Ok, it is not superduper fancy but it’s more like eating with comfort under Italian charm. And I’ve heard they serve good food too. Italian people eat their dinner at a late hour and so we did too. We arrived around 9PM and La Posada Rimini is packed, vibrant and so cosy! I hope we do get a table… But we did! A really handsome Italian waiter showed our table outside with the view over the beach which was really awesome. Yet the view over the night sea was pitch black, I find it really enjoyable starring at this eternal darkness while eating my creamy gnocchi with walnuts and tiramisu.    NL Dit zal mijn laatste vakantie-artikel zijn over mijn verblijf in Italië en tevens ook mijn laatste avondmaal. John Stick: the OK Holland chips

Image
EN I’m born and raised in Holland and when you claim to have ‘incredible Holland chips’ you have to deliver. However I’m not so sure either what the perfect Dutch fries is but to me it has to be: crunchy, has real potato flavour and a golden color. I’m kind of intrigued why they named it Holland chips but we do grow great potatoes! So I was of course extra picky with John Stick – Incredible Holland Chips and their fries. And I’m sorry for using the word ‘fries’ but chips are to me crisps. Even I never say crisps ha. John Stick is a small fastfood place in Rimini – Italy and their modern hip look and obviously the name pulled me in. And alright alright, because I'm a fries loving person too! So do they really have incredible fries and  ticked all my boxes? I am afraid not sadly.     NL Ik ben geboren en getogen in Nederland en als je beweert de 'incredible Holland chips' te hebben dan moet je het ook leve...

If Willy Wonka had a daughter...

EN … Then she must own a pretty sweet pastry shop! Like this one, my favourite pastry shop back in Rimini – Italy : La Briocheri a! Everything here is so flamboyantly sugary and sweet and even their toilet is so pretty! Probably the prettiest restaurant toilet where I have done my business so far. Ahem, anyways. I wanted to try this place out because 1) I was feeling dehydrated again in hot Italy , 2) the smell of pastry leaking out of this shop and 3) the wifi-sign. For those who know me longer this means a ( ice ) coffee break with a bite! Once inside I started to drool a waterfall because everything behind display, in glass jars and on plateaus were looking so delicious! I just want to eat them all. But remember I was feeling thirsty so I ordered myself an ice coffee first. The ice coffee was made right in front of my nose and it took me by surprise because it was served in a small wineglass. The ice coffee’s ...

Things I have bought in Italy

Image
EN Just a small quick post of what I’ve bought in Italy . The things I’ve bought in Italy are small gestures. No clothing, shoes ( wait I did buy flip flops ), handbags but mainly food and souvenir knickknacks for myself and others.  I didn’t have anything necessary to buy and the  limited suitcase space and weight really holds me down and most my money went to eating out anyways. So! You’ve probably already met the Nutella and tea in one snack , which was really yum! I swear, Italy is a one big Nutella country because Nutella was everywhere. When I was in Florence , I’ve bought these beauty mini sketchbooks because they have pretty a pretty typical Florence style printing inside. This motivates me to draw even better. And lastly I’ve bought pasta! Hey, you can’t leave Italy without purchasing pasta right? And these colored pasta are almost such a waste to be eaten away.       NL ...

A midnight snack is an ice cream. Always

Image
EN Not a day goes by without an ice cream or should I say a ‘gelato’ when I as in Italy last Summer! Italian ice cream is good, cheap and comes in big portion. O happy days! After a long beach day in beach town Rimini me and my sidekick F. went for a midnight snack because the night was still young and still warm and so our snack of choice was a no-brainer and quite simple: a gelato. Too many ice cream shops are housed at Rimini shore so me and F. decided to be picky. Basically, which shop looks the most appealing and importantly good value for money. And so we have chosen: Gelateria Mafalda ! Because Mafalda is a cartoon character which is sweet and the amount of customers makes this shop looks cosy and promising. Oh and I have kept the cute plastic cup too as souvenir.    NL Er ging geen dag voorbij zonder een ijsje of beter gezegd een 'gelato' in mijn laatste zomervakantie in Italië! Wanting beach life in Rimini

Image
EN I woke up again in Rimini : a city in Italy at the eastern coast line with an endless wide long beach . I haven’t been to a beach in such a long time which is kind of shameful since I’m only half hour driving away from hometown to a beach. I guess I’ll blame for not having a car to go to a beach. So my last summer in Rimini had a tail of nostalgia, because how good was the feeling of digging my toes into the sand? Walking on sea shells and pebbles that lay washed ashore were maybe painful at the beginning but got used to it and even served as a nice foot massage later on as the beach walk continues. But the most nostalgia was swimming in the sea. My last time swimming in the sea or should I say, dipping my legs in the sea water was when I was 5 years old at a friends birthday party. I remembered I cried at the party because I had a true phobia for water as a kid. Swimming in the ocean this time was scary and exciting. Don’t worry I ...
