You might have spotted this badboy before at my IG: this rich moist chocolate cake!
Now, I have said it before but I love chocolate cakes but I'm not a huge fan of chocolate cakes (say whut). I'm just a regular, normal, average fan of chocolate cakes.
I pick fruity cakes over chocolate cakes anytime but once in awhile I do crave for chocolate cakes.

Thus this recipe.

I've baked this cake for my friend's birthday and I've decided to bake the exact same one for Christmas 2015. Because 1. chocolate cakes make a good holiday cake and 2. everyone loves chocolate. Even an average fan like me.

NL

The process
This frosting is like, ugh, better than Nutella. There I've said it!

How to pipe decorate the sides (piece of cake):

The Steps

Cake
  1. Pre-heat oven to 180°C and line a cake pan (18-20Ø) with baking paper.
  2. Combine cacao powder + hot water to create a smooth mixture and let it cool down.
  3. In a new bowl: beat butter + sugar till fluffy and add in the egg and the yolk. When everything is combine pour in the cacao mixture.
  4. Add the flour, baking powder and salt and lastly the milk. Fold in everything with a spatula.
  5. Once everything is combined pour in the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes. Once it is baked leave cake cool down in cake pan for 15 minutes. Remove pan and baking paper and leave the cake cool down completely!

    Frosting
  6. In a saucepan goes the cream + salt + honey + instant coffee and bring it to simmer on medium heat.
  7. Add the chocolate and the sugar.
  8. Add the cold butter.
  9. Use with a spoon to combine everything and set aside to cool down and finally in the fridge.

    Cake assemble + piping
  10. Cut the cake horizontally to have 2 slices of cake. This is a tricky part so don't rush it. Just take your time!
  11. Spread on one cake a layer for about 2 tbsp. of chocolate frosting. Place the other cake on top of it. Now you should have the cake base ready! Time to glaze the outside with the chocolate frosting.
  12. Also 2 tbsp. for the top and a thin layer for the sides. TIP: leave the cake in the fridge to firm up the frosting.
  13. The rest of the frosting goes into the piping bag. See pictures above to create the lovely side piping cream! Real easy!
  14. Finally, garnish your cake with your chocolate, sweets and/or powdered sugar. Enjoy!
