A day in Amsterdam

EN

Today’s post will be all about my trip to Amsterdam last week! Armed with 2 friends we mainly went to our capital city of Holland for the museums: Van Gogh Museum and Het Rijksmuseum. I was really excited to see these museums because art is what I love and I want to learn and to be inspired by the old Dutch art and artists.

If you think museums are boring which they can be, but if you are slightly open minded, curious and studious than museums are really fun getaway! We went to the Van Gogh Museum first and I had a few basic info (not only his cut off ear) about Van Gogh in the back of my mind and what paintings he did but thanks to the museum I learned so much more about Van Gogh as person, his views and history. Perhaps the ‘Sunflowers’ is one of Van Gogh’s most famous work but my favourite work is definitely ‘Almond Blossom’.

Time flies when you are having fun and thanks for hanging a bit too long at the Van Gogh Museum, we had to rush a bit in the ‘t Rijksmuseum. ‘t Rijksmuseum not only had paintings unlike Van Gogh Museum but also had statues, jewelleries and decorations and therefore makes a bigger offer to the general audience.

‘t Rijksmuseum biggest magnet is the Rembrandt’s work: The Night watch and this work is really worth to see it in real because the beauty of it cannot be really described in words. Yet it is not my favourite piece of artwork. Scroll down below to see what is and how my day in Amsterdam looked like!

 Stop photobombing me S.

Fixing our empty stomach firstly
@Museum Café Mokum - Since their carrot cake is not store bought but homemade I've ordered it and it's pretty good and very recommended! I also loved their quirky looking ceiling.

1st museum stop: Van Gogh Museum
The golden tip from me to you: buy tickets online because the queues were abnormal long (this picture above does not do justice but still)!
We got straight access with our e-tickets which made us smile obvious.

No picture allowed to take inside the Van Gogh Museum.

Couldn't leave the Van Gogh Museum without buying merchandise.

a quick stroll @ Magna Plaza shopping center
I hope my old vinyl player still works because I want to buy some vinyls!

2nd museum stop: 't Rijksmuseum
Some art lover artists.

A Vermeer (painter of Girl with the Pearl Earring): 'The Milk Maid'

Snapping pictures was ok and so here are my favorite art pieces:
Verspronck - Girl in Blue // a 'gebedsnoot' // Breinter - Girl in White Kimono // Van Os - still life // jewelries // Van Dijck - 'ontbijtje'

I thought it was silly to see 'The Milk Maid' in Playmobil but now I regret for not buying it :c !!
Luckily 't Rijksmuseum has an online shop.

And we end with an Asian food dinner
 We had to wait a few minutes at @New King before a table came free. We ordered: fried rice, Singaporean style noodles, chicken noodle soup,  a batch of steamed 'Har Kau' and vegetarian spring rolls! My mouth, taste buds and stomach was in a happy place c;

Do you like art? :)

  1. Aaah, Rijksmuseum is leuk! :D

  3. So jealous! When we went to Amsterdam, we didn't have the time to visit both museums. We only had a chance to do a bus tour + Anne Frank, then a quick (but impulsive) trip to Volendam. But I don't regret not visiting these museums at all, at least I can add that to the many reasons why I should go back to Europe! :)

  5. Ah I love Amsterdam, if only it was just a train ride away for me! I got to see both these museums last time I was there and really enjoyed them.

  14. I love visiting museums when travelling, and luckily Dani is definitely on the same page :) We enjoyed a lot the audioguide at Van Gogh's museum, there were so many parts of his life that I didn't know before. Unfortunately we weren't able to visit Rijksmuseum (due to lack of time) but I would have loved to see Vermeer's works and I would have been too tempted also with the Playmobil! :) - Oh! and now that I've learnt that you can take pictures inside I'm even more regretful, ouch! Thanks to let me see it through your lens :)
