Project: Cinnamon ginger buns

EN

Ah, cinnamon buns! Probably one the favourite bites with breakfast, lunch or on the go! I love making bread and making cinnamon buns has been on my bucketlist for awhile and don’t you agree these would look great at your Christmas morning?
If you know the basic of bread making then cinnamon ginger buns are a piece of bun cake!
Yup, I’ve decided to add some ginger to spice things up and it goes really well with the cinnamon!

This year I have put a bit more effort in plotting our Christmas fiesta and as I grow older I enjoy spending time with the people I love and giving them presents! And food is always a good present c:

Ah, kaneel broodjes!

The Recipe:
Buns: 245 gr flour, 7 gr yeast, 2 tbsp. soft butter, 1 egg whisked, 125 ml milk (½ cup), ½ tsp. salt
Filling: 60 gr soft butter, 50 gr dark sugar, 1½ tbsp. cinnamon powder, ½ tsp. ginger powder, 60 gr candied ginger

Why not shape up in a Christmas tree!

The Steps:
  1. Grease baking tray with some butter.
  2. In a large bowl: whisk flour, yeast and salt together and knead in the butter until 'sand' texture is formed. Then add the milk and combine and knead everything until a dough. (Add a tbsp. of flour if the dough is too wet to work with.)
  3. Place the dough on the greased baking tray and cover with clingwrap and set aside in a warm place for 45 - 60 minutes until the dough has raised + doubled in size.
  4. Meanwhile making the filling: mix everything until combined and smooth and set aside.
  5. Back to the dough! After the rising process, your dough should look super puffy and airy and this is where you let the air out by pressing in the dough. Then place the dough on a dusted flour workbench and roll the dough out with a rollerpin.
  6. Spread the filling on top of the dough and roll it up!
  7. Once rolled up you carefully cut the dough in 10-11 pieces, place them back on the greased baking tray (perhaps in a Christmas tree shape!), cover with clingwrap and let it rest and rise for another 30 minutes. Meanwhile pre-heat oven to 190°C degrees
  8. Bake the cinnamon ginger buns for 30 minutes!
  9. After the 30 minutes let the buns cool down and sprinkle the buns with icing (mix 50 gr icing sugar with 1 tbsp. lemon juice)!
