HOTSPOT: Rio Santa

A confession: I have never eaten in a Mexican restaurant before, until. So a few weeks backs when me and this girlfriend of mine decided to have a Mexican dinner at Rio Santa I was quite excited about it because Rio Santa has a good score and reviews as well.

I have eaten Mexican/South American food before of course like burritos, wraps and churros but this will be the first time in a specific Mexican restaurant. Well, actually Rio Santa is a Mexican and Argentinean specializedrestaurant. A source of good and spicy South American food place I would say!  
Rio Santa is also located nearby my hometown so that’s a plus if I ever want to go back for 2nd bite.

We went there around 6PM and reservation wasn’t necessary because the restaurant was not busy. A few tables with a couple here and a family there, one lovely waitress and the dimmed light and the classic South American accent in the interior make it all cosy.

"Ohh they have a few vegetarian dishes!" but I chose the delicious sounding 'tuna enchiladas'. And my friend: the filled paprika's with minced chicken. Along with the sidedishes: salad (free saladbar) and rice and fries!

Een bekentenis: ik heb nog nooit in een Mexicaans restaurant gegeten, tot nu. Jullie weten, ik probeer graag nieuwe dingen uit dus toen ik een paar weken terug samen met een vriendin bij de Mexicaan ‘Rio Santa’ zou gaan eten vond ik het natuurlijk spannend en leuk.

Natuurlijk heb ik wel eerder Mexicaans/Zuid-Amerikaanse gerechten gegeten, zoals: burrito's, wraps en churros, maar dit is mijn eerste keer in een Mexicaans restaurant. Nouja, eigenlijk is Rio Santa een Mexicaans en Argentijnse gespecialiseerde restaurant. Als dit geen bron van goede en pittige Zuid-Amerikaanse eten is!

Daarnaast ligt Rio Santa vlak bij mij in de buurt en kan wellicht een goed pluspunt zijn mocht ik ooit terug willen komen voor een 2e hap!
We gingen rond 18:00 en reservering was overbodig omdat het restaurant niet druk was. Een paar tafel met een koppel en een familie daar, een vriendelijke serveerster en het gedimde licht en het klassieke Zuid-Amerikaans accent in het interieur maakt het allemaal wel gezellig.

"ohhh zullen we vegetarisch doen?" maar heb uiteindelijk toch gekozen voor de enchiladas met tonijn. Mijn vriendin: de gevulde paprika's met kip. Daarnaast een lekkere salade (gratis saladebar), rijst en friet!

 My dish: enchiladas with tuna, sour cream and cheese. I loved it! Love the combination between sour, spicy and sweet and I think I can gobble up the 3rd roll if there was....

The fries was yum and the rice was ok and needed a bit more seasoning in my opinion.

    I don't think I've ever been to a proper Mexican restaurant either! I've only ever eaten at American Mexican restaurants :P Anyways, I love the interior of this restaurant--it looks so cozy :D -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

    I rarely eat Mexican, but when I do I always enjoy it! it's a nice social and colourful experience too, I think :) x

    Ik ken de Mexicaanse keuken eigenlijk ook niet. Ken alleen taco's, empanadas, tortilla's en burrito's. En weet dat ze blijkbaar veel vlees gebruiken en pittige sauzen. Tot zo ver mijn kennis ;)

    Maar het was dus wel voor herhaling vatbaar?

    Ps: ik zit nu op een andere pc maar verder is mijn probleem met reageren nog steeds niet opgelost :(

    OMG YUMMY! The last few years I've made an effort to try out more new food places and I've eaten mexican food exactly 5 times! I totally love salsas and could eat an entire bowl! I just had a pork and cheese quesadilla but it really needed a lot more salsa for my liking! Your enchilada looked AMAZING! Love how mexican food is fresh, simple, so tasty and yes, also colorful!

    Mmm! How fun I'm just also discovering right now proper Mexican food :) I have eaten burritos and so on, but more in a TexMex style than actual real Mexican tacos and enchiladas.The decoration is so lovely & you look so cute about to est your enchiladas!

EN Or you can call them ‘scrubbies’ but I use them to create whip cream for my crochet cakes and cupcakes! They also make great home decorations by putting them into a maison jar! Did I just inspire you to make them as a gift for your friend, mum, girlfriend..? I’ll say: go for it! NL Of ze worden ook wel ‘scrubbies’ genoemd en ze zijn bedoeld om je lichaam mee te wassen en te scrubben. Maar mijn versie is klein en dienen ze als toefjes slagroom op mijn gehaakte taartjes en cupcakes! Ook doen ze aardig als huis decoraties bijvoorbeeld in een leuke glazen pot! DIY: Crochet banana

EN This week is officially my back-to-work week from my 6 wonderful weeks off Summer break. And like always it takes some time to adjust, to get my inner work engine warmed up again and like always take a deep breath. It’s kind of the same feeling going back to school but instead of school it’s work. Yay. Since it’s my first work week and it’s first of September why not kick it off with a DIY post. DIY: Crochet Miniature Cinnamon Rolls

EN It’s holidays and Liberation Days in The Netherlands and with all these delicious day offs, I’ve finally got more time to do my yarn works. And yes sleeping in late is also great. But mostly I’ve been really productive with my yarn works, whereas the most recent ones - the puff pastry/Danish I have received a fair amount of likes and sweet comments on my social media. Thank you! Being productive means also I take effort and time in perfecting my yarn works but not too hard to make luckily! Especially the snail rolls (cinnamon rolls/pain aux raisin) are really easy and fun to make.
