DIY: crochet headband crown (KINGSDAY!)

EN

Let me start this Saturday off with a DIY because of the upcoming Kingsday in The Netherlands!
We are one of the leftovers monarchs in the world and I think my country is proud of our king & queen. At least I do.

Decades we celebrate Queensday and after our former queen retired 2 years ago, her son obviously had to follow up and take over the throne. And it’s obvious we need to change this holiday name.

Our national colour is (surprise surprise): orange! We love wearing orange during World Cups (football especially), Olympics and of course national holidays like Kingsday. These are actually my only days I wear orange. Therefore todays DIY has to be something orange and monarch-ish and why not make a crown!

I hope you try out this simple crochet tutorial. Perhaps in other colours as well!
NL

Instructions:

Triangles
R1. Chain 7.
R2. Start single crochet in the 2nd stitch (6th chain) to the end.
R3. Chain 1. Skip the first stitch an decrease in the next 2 stitches. Single crochet the following 2 stitches then decrease in the last two stitches.
R4: Chain 1. Single crochet in the 2nd stitch towards the end.
R5. Chain 1. Again, skip the first stitch and decrease in the next 4 stitches (desperately decrease)
R6: Chain 1. Single crochet in the 2nd stitch towards the end.
R7: Chain 1. Decrease in the last 2 stitches.
R8: Chain 1. Slip stitch, leave a tail.

Measuring your crown
1. With the same color yarn measure your head by wrapping the yarn around your head. It should not be to loose or too tight.

2. Mark down the length of the yarn with tape or a paperclip and place it straight down on a surface. Place the triangles with the width facing the yarn next to each other. This way you'll see how much triangles you need to make in order to make a crown that fits you!

Securing & connecting
1. Make a loop and stick your hook pen through the edge of the triangle. Weave the yarn with the triangles by single crochet it. Do this to all of the triangles. Once you have connect all the triangles (it should look like a triangle garland) connect the beginning with the end.

CAUTIOUS: watch out twisting your work! Make sure everything is in line!

2. We are going to strengthen the headband by crocheting 4 rounds, all in single crochet. Then slip stitch in the last stitch in the final round. Leave a long tail and weave it in the inside of your work.

Hook pen: 1,5 mm - orange cotton yarn.

20 made in total!

A tip: To know exactly where the beginning is of a row, just poke a toothpick in the stitch.

  2. This is super cute! How cute would it be to make the band thicker so that the crown can double as a headband/ear-warmer for the winter :D -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

  5. Orange is such a hard colour to wear on a day to day basis but the crochet crown looks super cute! I also think it is quite cute how enthusiastic your country is about Queens/ Kingsday

  10. How cuuuute you look with the crown! The DIY is unfortunately currently out of my league (ohmy! it seems quite tricky! but maybe it's just because I haven't learn yet) but it's a great idea for a birthday party or bachelorette or any party in fact ;)
