Food in Process: Springrolls

Living in Europe it's hard to find real Chinese
cuisine in authentic dishes. The nearest restaurant
is 90 km away from my house and even so, the
taste is still not comparable with the real goods.

Therefor I rather make these dishes at home
instead of wasting my gas and polluting the air with.
One of the things I usually order with dimsum
springrolls. Mhmm so yum! One of my aunt taught
me this recipe and with today's post I want to show you
people how easy it is to prepare springrolls at home!

Da Recipe: sheets of rice paper, prawns, spring onions, pre-made shiitake,
garlic, slices of ginger, hot water
OPTIONAL: black fungus, carrots, chicken
(Actually you can use leftovers as fillings to be honest ...)

Da Steps:

1. Pre-cook the filling: season the shrimps/chicken with salt, pepper and maizena. Mix well! 2. Heat a pan with oil and add the ginger and garlic. Add the filling and stir-fry until cooked. Set aside.
  3. Get a large round not too deep plate and fill this with hot water. Careful your fingers! 4. Dunk 1 sheet of the rice paper into this plate of hot water and let it absorb until it's soften. Don't soak the rice paper   too long otherwise it will be too soft to work with :c 5. Once the rice paper is soft enough to work with, place it on a new plate. Place the filling in the middle. 6. Fold it like your a folding an eggroll. Or an evelope.. 7. Once you've folded your springrolls, place it on a steam rack on a pre-boiled pan of water. 8. Cover the lid and steam the springrolls for about 8-10 minutes and you're done! Serve it with soy sauce and enjoy c:

Good luck!

  1. I always wondered if the ricepaper with the hatchmarks turned out clear. My friend and I were in the store and we didn't end up getting them because we weren't sure if they were right. Glad to know now.
